You want relief? My male yeast infection treatment list has proven remedies.
Get treated with male yeast infection treatment that work. See the complete list of man yeast infection symptoms if you are not sure you have a male yeast infection (balanitis). You're at this page because you want to find a male yeast infection treatment that work.
Now if this is the first time you are experiencing a penile yeast infection, keep reading for a candida infection home remedy you can use. While a penis yeast infection is not life threatening, I would strongly urge you to see your doctor to get a proper diagnosis for a few reasons -- 1) you don't want to just assume that you have a penile yeast infection (balanitis), 2) you could have something more serious than a man yeast infection such as another STD (sexually transmitted disease), and 3) self treatment with an over-the-counter antifungal medication when in fact you do not have a man yeast infection is not a good thing. Why? If you in fact do not have a man yeast infection but still treating your infection symptoms with an OTC antifungal cream, you could end up creating a more resistant strain of candida albicans with repeated use.
If you have been medically diagnosed as having a man yeast infection, here're some yeast infection remedies.
Good hygiene
If you're not circumcised, start by practicing good hygiene. Regardless of which male yeast infection treatment you decide to use, this is something that all men suffering from a penile yeast infection should do, not just for the duration of the man yeast infection, but for the lifetime to prevent a recurrence. When showering each day, be sure to gently retract (pull back) your penis' foreskin and clean your penis and foreskin with a mild soap and water. Don't over latter -- more soap isn't always better. Over drying the skin with caustic soaps will only make the man yeast infection worse. If your penis yeast infection is severe, you may want to skip the soap and rinse with just warm water. After shower, be sure to retract the foreskin again and dry the penis and its surrounding area thoroughly. PAT, DON'T RUB! Your skin is already tender enough from the man yeast infection ... don't add more injury to the poor thing! Something you may want to do if possible, is to allow the penis to areate for about 10 minutes or so after showering and patting dry.
Over-the-counter (OTC) antifungal medication
In most cases, if your penis yeast infection is not serious, you will probably be told by your doctor to try an OTC (over-the-counter) antifungal cream like Monistat or Lotrimin AF (yes, I know this is for athlete's foot, but trust me, it works just the same) for your male yeast infection treatment.
Here's what you do with the OTC antifungal cream -- first, you want to apply this twice a day.
- If you're applying your male yeast infection treatment at bedtime, make sure you clean your penis first (see above).
- Then sparingly apply a layer (don't goop it on, guys ... more isn't necessarily better!) of the male yeast infection treatment medication onto the tip of your penis and onto the shaft if that area is also infected. The antifungal medication is enough in most cases. If you find that using the antifungal cream alone is not enough to get rid of your balanitis, try adding a few drops of vinegar to the cream and apply it to affected area. Vinegar lowers the pH, thus making the environment less pleasant for the yeast fungus. Now you're probably thinking that if vinegar works, why not just add it directly to your penis, right? Wrong!!! Don't do it!!! Adding such an acidic agent to an already sore and blistered skin will only result in pure discomfort for you. So don't even think about it. The antifungal cream, however, will help temper the acidity of the vinegar.
- If your foreskin is intact (i.e. you're not circumcised!), be sure to (gently) pull the foreskin back over the tip of the penis after application of the medication.
- Follow the directions on the cream's package and complete the male yeast infection treatment for the stated amount of days (ex. Monistat 7 is a 7 days treatment, or Gyne-Lotrimin 3 is a 3 days treatment) . Do not stop using the cream once you see that the symptoms have disappeared. Chances are, there are still plenty of candida fungus lurking about, only you can't see or feel their effects. So if you stop the male yeast infection treatment without completing the entire treatment cycle, you could end up helping create a strand of candida that is more resistant to the antifungal cream the next time you have a penis yeast infection.
It's also best to avoid any sexual intercourse while you have a penile yeast infection and going through your male yeast infection treatment. It's bad enough that you have it, don't pass it on! Also, if your wife has a yeast infection (and she was the one who gave it to you in the first place!), she needs to get treated as well so you don't "play tennis" with the proverbial yeast infection and keep giving it back and forth to each other. No, not fun at all! Furthermore, if you're both using an OTC antifungal cream, it contains vegetable or mineral oils that will weaken latex condoms! And, don't trust OTCs will to prevent sexually transmitted diseases -- it's not what their created for.
Diflucan
In more severe cases, your doctor may prescribe an oral male yeast infection treatment called Diflucan. How does diflucan work? The active ingredient is fluconazole, thus it's from the "azole" drug family. It works the same as the other "azoles" of the antifungal fighting team -- miconazole, clotrimazole, tioconazole, butoconazole, etc. They all work by breaking down the cell walls of the candida until it dissolves. Diflucan works the same way ... only it's taken orally by mouth (vs. spread or "injected" into the vagina in cream or suppository form, sold as Monistat, Lotrimin, etc.). AND, it's much, much, much, much more powerful.
Doctors will sometimes prescribe this male yeast infection treatment in 1 higher dosage pill. Other doctors may prescribe this male yeast infection treatment in a combo of 3 lesser dosage pills taken in 3 consecutive days or more. The dosage and length of treatment will depend on the type and severity of penile infection that you have.
If you have a prescription for this male yeast infection treatment, where can you get it filled? Logic is you get it filled according to your health plan policy or find your online choice here at a reputable merchant associated with the National Association Boards of Pharmacy.
Diabetic, not following a low glucose diabetic diet and suffering from recurring penile yeast infection? You may want to consider getting on a low-glycemic diet and your diabetes under control. Remember Rule # 2 -- yeast feeds on glucose.
In most cases, I prefer natural remedies for my yeast infections. OTC and prescription antifungal medications are all artificially manufactured drugs. They are all from the "polyene" or "azole" families. That means the active ingredient's name ends with "azole", for example -- clortimazole, miconazole, or fluconazole. The chances are high that with each treatment using an "azole" drug, you breeding a more resistant strain of candida albicans.
