Continuing list of yeast infection home remedy for your candida

Here’re more yeast infection home remedy in addition to my Top 3.

To recap, here’re my Top 3 yeast infection home remedy

  1. Garlic capsules (or raw garlic)
  2. Yogurt
  3. OTC medication

Again, I may sound like a broken record by now, but I urge you to see your doctor if you suspect a yeast infection (even if not for the first time, and especially if you do not frequently get a yeast infection). Sometimes self-diagnosis can lead you down the wrong path and you could end up treating yourself with a yeast infection cures when you really do not have a candida overgrowth. What’s wrong with that, you say? Well, for one, if you use an OTC antifungal cream to treat the supposed yeast infection, you could end up creating a more resistant strain of candida albicans with repeated use. Another more serious issue is if you actually have a something more serious than a yeast infection and end up ignoring it because you thought you have a yeast infection.

Here’re other forms of yeast infection home remedy. I’ve personally tried, others I have not yet tried because I’m happy with my existing yeast infection cures — garlic. These yeast infection home remedy were either recommended by friends of mine who also suffered from yeast infections, or recommended by fellow yeast sufferers on messageboards.

Boric acid suppositories
That’s right — most of us associate boric acid with insecticides, herbicides, or pesticides. But, did you know that boric acid is more commonly used in the health products we see on the shelf than most would realize? As a chemical substance, boric acid has mild antiseptic properties. It is used in eyewash and “artificial tears” products, as well as topical cold sore ointments.2 Some douching solutions sold commercially even contain boric acid.

As a yeast infection home remedy, boric acid is particularly effective as a suppository. A study was conducted involving 100 women who have chronic yeast vaginitis and the use of boric acid as a yeast infection remedy. These were women who had failed to respond to OTC treatment or prescription antifungal medicines. 98% of the women successfully treated their infections with boric acid capsules inserted into the vagina twice daily for 2 to 4 weeks. 1 Please note — DO NOT use this yeast infection home remedy if you are pregnant!

To try your hand at boric acid as a yeast infection home remedy, here’s what you’ll need –

  1. Size 00 empty gelatin capsules. Most pharmacies will have them. I prefer to purchase mine from the local health food store from their bulk foods section, or from a credible on-line merchant if I’m too lazy to trek out to the store.
  2. Boric acid powder (duh!). Again, you can find them at the local pharmacy or even Safeway, in their health products section — that’s where I found mine! If you’re having a hard time finding some, here’s a good place to get it.
  3. Reusable antifungal cream (check out the Safeway Miconazole with Reusable applicator) applicator
  4. Water-based personal lubricant.
  5. Panty liner. I like to use Always as I find it works better at keeping the moisture away from my skin.

Here’s what you do …

  1. Fill two 00 size gel caps with the boric acid. This should give you about 600 mg total.
  2. Insert the filled capsules into the (antifungal cream) applicator, leaving the top 1/4 of the last capsule peeping from the top of the applicator.
  3. Smear a tiny bit of the lubricant on the applicator. Make sure you also apply a bit of the lubricant on the tip of the top capsule.
  4. Lying down, insert the applicator and “inject” the capsules into your vagina (duh!) before you go to sleep. Don’t insert it too deep or it will take the whole day for the capsules to work themselves out. I find that inserting them about half way works best but you can experiment and see what works best for you.

Repeat this yeast infection home remedy every night for a week. To make sure you get rid of all the extra yeasties, continue this yeast infection cures twice a week for the next three weeks. This is a really strong yeast infection home remedy. The boric acid may be too strong from some women and some have experienced superficial burning/discomfort. If you are one of them, try starting with one filled capsule the first few days of treatment and work your way up to two. Also, boric acid should not be applied directly to open wounds. Boric acid is very toxic when taken internally. So if you have any open sores from your yeast infection, it is best to stay away from this yeast infection home remedy until the sores have healed.

Boric acid-tea tree oil douche
OK … normally, doctors poo-poo douching as it increases the chances of getting a pelvic infection, etc. But even my OB-GYN suggested I try douching when I kept going back to her for yeast infection home remedy! Here’s what you’ll need to make a tea tree oil douche –boric acid douche made with 1 cup of distilled water, 2 tablespoons boric acid powder and 5 to 10 drops tea tree oil. Do that twice a day. Also insert an acidophilus capsule into the vagina at night

  1. Tea tree oil. I’ve found tea tree oils at various local health food stores. I’ve also found tea tree oil at reputable merchants on the web at some really decent prices.Click here if you prefer the organically grown version.
  2. Boric acid powder
  3. Acidophilus capsules (optional). There are two brands that I like and have had good results with. You can get these again at your local health food store or here online — PB8 and Culturelle LGG.
  4. Distilled water
  5. Douche applicator. I buy the cheap 79 cents douche that comes with their generic solution and reusable applicator from my local pharmacy (like a Walgreens, QVC, etc.), dump the solution and keep the applicator.

Here’s what you do –

  1. Mix 5 to 10 drops of tea tree oil to 2 tablespoons of boric acid powder and 1 cup of distilled water.
  2. Optional – insert an acidophilus capsule into the vagina at night. Be sure to wear a panty liner if you do so.

Douche twice a day for a week until all yeast infection symptoms are gone. I prefer to douche at night before bed as lying down immediately after douching (I think) helps the solution stay in a little longer. Some things you want to be aware of when douching –

  1. Use care when you’re inserting and removing the douche nozzle as you don’t want to cause more damage to your vaginal walls. More damage could result in further and possibly more serious bacterial or yeast infections.
  2. Most douching packaging will tell you this — when you’re douching, be sure to keep the douche bottle below your pelvis and use gentle pressure to release the fluid. Do not use excessive force to squeeze the bottle as that could force the solution too far up your vagina, through your cervix and into the uterus. Not good!
