More yeast infection home remedy that work!

Keep reading for more yeast infection home remedy you can use at home.

Yes, yes ... here's the broken record playing again! -- see your doctor if you suspect a yeast infection (even if not for the first time, and especially if you do not frequently get a yeast infection). Sometimes self-diagnosis can lead you down the wrong path and you could end up treating yourself with a yeast infection home remedy when you really do not have a candida overgrowth. What's wrong with that, you say? Well, for one, if you use an OTC antifungal cream to treat the supposed yeast infection, you could end up creating a more resistant strain of candida albicans with repeated use. Another more serious issue is if you actually have a something more serious than a yeast infection and end up ignoring it because you thought you have a yeast infection.

Here're other forms of yeast infection home remedy. These yeast infection home remedy were either recommended by friends of mine who also suffered from yeast infections, or recommended by fellow yeast sufferers on messageboards.

Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is the essential oils derived from the Melaleuca alternifloria tree cultivated in Australia. It is supposed to have antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. As with most essential oils, DO NOT apply undiluted oil directly on skin, especially tea tree oil. Always dilute it with something else (see below) or you can even use olive oil. Here're a couple of options for using tea tree oil as a yeast infection home remedy --

    1. Non-applicator type tampon
    2. Water-based personal lubricant
    3. Tea tree oil. I've found tea tree oils at various local health food stores. I've also find tea tree oil at reputable merchants on the web at some really decent prices. Or click here if you prefer an organic version.

Here's what you do --

    1. Coat the top half of the tampon with the lubricant
    2. Put a few drops of the tea tree oil
    3. Insert the tampon
    4. Be sure to remove the tampon in the morning
  • "Make 'em yourself" capsule suppositories

    Here's what you'll need --
    1. Size 00 empty gelatin capsules. Most pharmacies will have them. I prefer to purchase mine from the local health food store from their bulk foods section, or from a credible on-line merchant if I'm too lazy to trek out to the store.

    2. Tea tree oil. For organic tea tree oil, click here.

    3. Reusable antifungal cream (check out the Safeway Miconazole with Reusable applicator) applicator

    4. Water-based personal lubricant.

    5. Panty liner. I like to use Always as I find it works better at keeping the moisture away from my skin

Here's what you do --

  1. Fill one 00 size gel capsule with a few drops of tea tree oil. Once you filled the capsule, you'll have to move quickly as the moisture will start softening & melting the gel cap.

  2. Insert the filled capsule into the (antifungal cream) applicator, leaving the top 1/4 of the capsule peeping from the top of the applicator.

  3. Smear a tiny bit of the lubricant on the applicator. Make sure you also apply a bit of the lubricant on the tip of the top capsule.

  4. Lying down, insert the applicator and "inject" the capsule into your vagina (duh!) before you go to sleep.
  • Tea tree oil douche. OK ... normally, doctors poo-poo douching as it increases the chances of getting a pelvic infection, etc. But even my OB-GYN suggested I try douching when I kept going back to her for yeast infection home remedy! Here's what you'll need to make a tea tree oil douche --
    1. Tea tree oil. I've found tea tree oils at various local health food stores. I've also found tea tree oil at reputable merchants on the web at some really decent prices. Click here if you prefer the organically grown version.
    2. Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
    3. Distilled water
    4. Douche applicator. I buy the cheap 79 cents douche that comes with their generic solution and reusable applicator from my local pharmacy (like a Walgreens, QVC, etc.), dump the solution and keep the applicator.

Here's what you do --

  1. Mix 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil with 1 teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol. This solution will turn a milky white color. Pour this solution into a dropper bottle.

  2. When you're ready to douche, mix 10 drops of the above solution to 1 pint of water.

Douche once a day for a week until all yeast infection symptoms are gone. I prefer to douche at night before bed as lying down immediately after douching (I think) helps the solution stay in a little longer. Some things you want to be aware of when douching --

    1. Use care when you're inserting and removing the douche nozzle as you don't want to cause more damage to your vaginal walls. More damage could result in further and possibly more serious bacterial or yeast infections.

    2. Most douching packaging will tell you this -- when you're douching, be sure to keep the douche bottle below your pelvis and use gentle pressure to release the fluid. Do not use excessive force to squeeze the bottle as that could force the solution too far up your vagina, through your cervix and into the uterus. Not good!

With all of these tea tree oil yeast infection home remedy, you should repeat the treatment until all signs of the yeast infection are gone.

Gentian violet
Gentian violet has been used for all sorts of antibacterial and antifungal applications. As a yeast infection home remedy, there are a couple of ways to do use it --

  • Swab or paint the gentian violet on the vulva (including the labia or "lips" of the vagina) and into the vagina area. Dip a clean Q-Tip into the solution making sure it's wet but not dripping.

  • Dampen a tampon with the gentian violet solution and insert.

Gentian violet is supposed to work with only a couple of applications. But some things you'll need to be aware of when using gentian violet as a yeast infection home remedy --

  1. Gentian violet is a bright violet/purple color. It will stain your skin and your clothing! When you're using this yeast infection home remedy, be sure to wear a panty liner. To be extra cautious, you might also want to wear dark underwear (with a panty liner like Always) and clothing.

  2. Gentian violet will sting open wounds. I remember mom using this on my cuts as a child. Man, did it sting the bejeebers out of me when she swabs the stuff on! The lesson here is -- if you have any open sores from your yeast infection, do not use gentian violet unless you are into pain!

  3. Some people are allergic to this stuff. If you're not sure if you are allergic to gentian violet as a yeast infection home remedy, I suggest applying a tiny bit to a test area first.

So where can you find this stuff? Gentian violet can be found in some pharmacies or natural health food stores. If you can't find it, here's a place you can get this yeast infection home remedy.
