Continuing list of yeast infection home remedy for your candida
Here're more yeast infection home remedy in addition to my Top 3.
Broken record playing again ... see your doctor if you suspect a yeast infection (even if not for the first time, and especially if you do not frequently get a yeast infection). Sometimes self-diagnosis can lead you down the wrong path and you could end up treating yourself with a yeast infection home remedy when you really do not have a candida overgrowth. What's wrong with that, you say? Well, for one, if you use an OTC antifungal cream to treat the supposed yeast infection, you could end up creating a more resistant strain of candida albicans with repeated use. Another more serious issue is if you actually have a something more serious than a yeast infection and end up ignoring it because you thought you have a yeast infection.
Here're other forms of yeast infection home remedy. These yeast infection home remedy were either recommended by friends of mine who also suffered from yeast infections, or recommended by fellow yeast sufferers on messageboards.
Potassium sorbate
Potassium sorbate is a potassium salt version of sorbic acid. Sorbic acid is a polyunsaturated fat used to inhibit mold growth. Sorbic acid and its salts are commonly used to inhibit the growth of microbes -- i.e. help preserve the foods we buy in stores. Potassium sorbate sometimes can be purchased from local microbrew supply stores or some natural foods stores also carry them. Here's a reputable site that for potassium sorbate that has good service and a decent price.
To use potassium sorbate as a yeast infection home remedy, here's what you'll need --
- Potassium sorbate
- Water
- Tampon
- Syringe (without needle!) or a small turkey baster
Here's what you do --
- Mix approximately 1 tablespoon (8 gm) of potassium sorbate into 1 cup of water. This will make a 3% solution.
- Insert the (dry) tampon
- Fill the syringe (without the needle) or turkey baster with the potassium sorbate solution and squirt it up towards the tampon so the tampon absorbs the liquid. OK ... make sure you're sitting on the toilet or squatting in your bath tub when you do this because it can get a tad messy!
As with most suppository-type yeast infection home remedy, do this at night. Be sure to remove the tampon in the morning. Repeat this yeast infection home remedy until all the symptoms are gone.
Hydrogen peroxide
Lactobacilli is the main group of microorganims that exist in a healthy vagina. Theese organisms work to keep yeast (and other pathogens) undercontrol by producing lactic acid (hence "lacto") and hydrogen peroxide. Lactic acid keeps the vagina environment acidic and the hydrogen peroxide is toxic to the yeast and other pathogens. When you get a yeast infection, naturally the flora in the vagina is off-balance with the yeast overgrowing everywhere. This leaves the "good" bacteria greatly outnumbered and unable to produce enough hydrogen peroxide to fight off the extra candida.
There have been numerous research conducted in recent years on the effect of hydrogen peroxide on yeast infection, particularly in relation to various strains hydrogen producing lactobacilli. The most promising has been the strain identified as lactobacillus crispatus strain CTV-05. This strain has been shown through DNA fingerprinting to be prevalent in vaginal floral of most women throughout the world. In a pilot study conducted in 2001 (conducted by Magee-Womens Research Institute,1 Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), lactobacillus crispatus showed the ability to colonize the vaginas of most of the test subjects who did not show existing traces of lactobacillus crispatus.
So how do you use hydrogen peroxide as a yeast infection home remedy? You can purchase hydrogen peroxide (3% concentration) from your local pharmacy. Or you can check out this site for more information on this yeast infection home remedy.
Here's what you need --
- Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
- Water
- Douche applicator. I buy the cheap 79 cents douche that comes with their generic solution and reusable applicator from my local pharmacy (like a Walgreens, QVC, etc.), dump the solution and keep the applicator.
To make this hydrogen peroxide douche yeast infection home remedy, mix 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with 1 cup of water. Douche with this solution daily until one day after the yeast infection symptoms are gone.
