Use yogurt to rid yeast infection Yogurt is a long recommended and used yeast infection home remedy. Number 1 of my Top 3 yeast infection home remedy is garlic. You guessed it — my number 2 is YOGURT!
Again, here’s my caution … please see your doctor if you suspect a yeast infection (even if not for the first time, and especially if you do not frequently get a yeast infection). Sometimes self-diagnosis can lead you down the wrong path and you could end up treating yourself with a yeast infection home remedy when you really do not have a candida overgrowth. What’s wrong with that, you say? Well, for one, if you use an OTC antifungal cream to treat the supposed yeast infection, you could end up creating a more resistant strain of candida albicans with repeated use. Another more serious issue is if you actually have a something more serious than a yeast infection and end up ignoring it because you thought you have a yeast infection.
With all that said, let’s get back to The List …
Top 3 Yeast Infection Home Remedy
#2 Yogurt
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being excellent, I give this yeast infection yogurt home remedy a 6.
This is an old standby and it’s a natural remedy yeast infection. Of course, it’s #2 with me for a reason. I find that for my intense yeast infection yogurt doesn’t quite cut it as well as the garlic supplements or even the OTC antifungal creams. So why is it #2? First reason is that for a mild yeast infection yogurt works. Second reason, using this yeast infection yogurt home treatment is a natural remedy is much better than shooting yourself up with artificially manufactured antifungal creams that always has the potential for creating drug resistant strains of candida albicans. Here’s what you’ll need …
- Plain, unflavored, un-sugared yogurt with live lactobacillus acidophilus. I found Nancys Plain Organic Yogurt to be a good brand and easily accessible from any local Safeways (use this link to buy your anti yeast infection yogurt and get $10 off!).
- Reusable plastic antifungal cream (check out the Safeway Miconazole with Reusable applicator) applicator.
- Panty liner. Again, I like Always.
Here’s what you do …
- Fill the applicator with the yogurt
- Insert the filled applicator and inject the yogurt into the vagina at bedtime.
Apply once or twice daily until the yeast infection clears. Again, to be on the safe side, apply for an extra 2 days.
You can also apply twice a day, although with the laws of gravity at work, if you apply during the daytime, I don’t know how the yogurt can stay inside long enough for it to do much good. Some have also suggested freezing the applicator pre-filled with the yogurt for less messy and easier (not to mention the relieving effects of having an ice cold yo-cicle to ease the itchiness) application.
My doctor also recommends eating yogurt as a yeast infection yogurt home remedy. Some of my friends who had yeast infections have tried this and swears it works. Personally, it didn’t do me much good. I guess this is one of those YMMV (your mileage may vary) situations. Again, if you are going to try this, make sure that you select an anti yeast infection yogurt that has live yeast cultures in it as well as low sugar content. Yeast thrives on sugar.
I guess a side benefit of eating more yogurt (as a yeast infection yogurt home remedy) is that it’s adding to your calcium intake!
